1. What were your favorite/least favorite childhood holiday traditions?

My favorite tradition from my childhood (and of all time) is Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. This was something that my brothers, sister and I always looked forward to. I know a lot of people do presents on Christmas Eve. My husband has always felt that it was strange to know what your present was going to be and he never was a fan of pajamas. I have continued this tradition in my own house though because I love it!

These are the pajamas that I got for Jasper to wear this year. It makes me sad that he wasn't able to wear them. I ended up gifting them to a little boy that was born a couple weeks after he was and it makes me happy that they will be worn.

2. What's your favorite holiday tradition(s) that you’ve started as an adult in your own family?

Our first Christmas together, we started collecting dating ornaments. We now have 13 lovely dated ornaments. It is so fun to go through each year and reflect on the memories made with each ornament. I am going to continue this tradition for my children. I did get one for Jasper this year. In fact, his ornament is our official dated ornament for 2013. I don't know if I will get one for him every year or not. I will have to see how I feel about that. Here is our family dated ornament this year.

3. When do you put the tree up and start playing holiday music?

Historically, my family put the tree up the day after thanksgiving. We would always listen to holiday music and decorate together. As my brothers and sisters grew up, they became less and less excited about it. I continued on my own. Now, my husband and I do the same thing. I get all of the goodies out and have the house all decked out the day after Thanksgiving. Usually, we decorate the front yard and everything but we skipped that this year. Here is my set up for 2013.

4. What are you asking Santa to leave for you under the tree and in your stocking this year?

I'll state the obvious.. a positive pregnancy test. :O Yeah, probably not.

I would love for Santa to bring me books to further my doula and future midwife career. These books are ex-pen-sive! Totally worth it though. I am so excited to move forward with that in 2014.

I got a game for my husband. We like to play board games and Christmas morning is one of the only times I can actually beat him at games. It's mystical. I don't understand it. I'll take it.

5. What was your favorite holiday gift you received as a child?

Sorry to be redundant but my favorite gift(s) are always the Christmas pajamas. I just love them. One gift that I remember from when I was younger was a fake bearskin rug. I still have this somewhere. It is like a giant flat teddy bear. Super cool.

6. How do you give back during the holidays?

I try to be a good person always and do one good thing for someone every day. Whether it's letting someone in while driving, or holding a door, giving up my seat... something nice. For no reason at all and I don't limit this to the holiday season. I started this after I lost my baby boy and I like to do this as sort of an honor to him. He made me a better person.

7. What is your favorite holiday movie?

Every year, my husband and I watch Christmas Vacation. He loves it. I always liked it but what makes me most happy is how happy it makes him. It's like it reminds him about the good parts of his childhood I think. So this has been another tradition that we do together.

8. Fill in the blank: "It wouldn't be the holidays without _____."

It would not be the holidays without my husband and furry family. :) I love making dinner for my husband and my pups (and sometimes cats) get some too. Baking and calls to the family are always awesome. I would love if I could spend time with my family but they are all a state away so calls will have to suffice.
